Jicarilla Apache Department of Education (JADE) Federal Programs provides supplemental and educational assistance in areas such as tutoring, parent involvement, culture and language, school supplies, career awareness, and other areas to support the JOM vision.

Culture

The JADE Federal Programs office is working with community members of all ages on the Curriculum Pilot Project to develop supplemental curriculum covering Jicarilla history, government, and culture.

Annual Youth FilmFest

JOM hosts an annual educational film program during spring break. Participating students strengthen reading, writing, and communication skills while learning the basic of film making, acting, producing, and editing. The program gives local youth a valuable opportunity to tell their own stories and explore what is important to them through media.. ​Learn More.
Language and Culture Youth Program
Jicarilla Language immersion classes were taught in the JOM learning center
for eligible 4-7-year old youth before the pandemic.  
The program included:
  • Art - pottery, drawing painting, looking for traditional plants
  • Making traditional regalia - looms, sewing, beading, and more...
  • Jicarilla History - storyboards, Eagle, Buffalo, Deer, Clans, Gojiiya, Puberty Ceremonies, Horses
  • Fitness - PowWow Dance, Social Dance, Football Field activities, Traditional games
  • Math - Learning Math through beading and other hands-on activities
  • Nutrition and Wellness - Watermelon cake, Face-washing, Hygiene, Reading Labels, Making Smoothies and Healthy Snacks
  • Reading - with Snacks and Guest Readers
  • Science - Water is Life, Earth, Plants, How Things are Made, Growing Flowers, Traditional Medicines
  • Field Trips - Southern Ute Cultural Museum in Ignacio, Colorado
